GULF STARS MAGAZINE — Special Report
MANAMA — Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY), a premier regional maritime facility, has successfully completed a comprehensive maintenance, repair, and upgrade project for the Admarine 339 offshore jack-up drilling rig. The asset belongs to ADES Holding, a global leader in jack-up rig services for the oil and gas sector.
The project was delivered on schedule, within the allocated budget, and under the highest international safety standards. The milestone underscores the long-standing strategic partnership between ASRY and ADES as part of an integrated program to enhance the operational readiness of ADES’s offshore fleet.
Historical Milestone: Docking the JU-2000E Class Rig
The arrival of Admarine 339 at ASRY’s drydocks marks a historic record for the Bahrain-based yard. Designed under the JU-2000E specification, the vessel is the largest self-elevating jack-up drilling rig ever docked at ASRY’s facilities.
Docking an asset of this scale required innovative engineering solutions, meticulous planning, and detailed engineering studies. Close coordination between ASRY and ADES technical teams ensured execution with supreme precision and operational efficiency.
Scope of Work Executed:
Technical Inspection: Thorough evaluation of hull integrity and operational systems.
Drydocking & Re-qualification: Full docking procedures and structural maintenance.
Upgrades & Refurbishment: System modernizations to boost field reliability.
Strategic Accreditation: ASRY Partnering with NOV
Parallel to the project execution, ASRY achieved a crucial industry milestone by securing formal authorization from National Oilwell Varco (NOV) as an approved service and repair facility for drilling, production, and power equipment.
This accreditation enables ASRY to perform certified repairs and servicing of NOV equipment directly within its workshops, adhering strictly to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) procedures. Previously, such equipment required transport to external NOV overseas facilities.
Logistical Efficiency: By performing these repairs locally, ASRY significantly cuts supply chain turnaround times and logistics costs, delivering an end-to-end service experience for offshore operators.
Executive Commentary: Resilience and Operational Excellence
Commenting on the completion of the project, Taner Demirel, Head of Offshore Services at ASRY, stated:
"This project highlights the strength of the enduring relationship between ASRY and ADES, embodying the fruits of close collaboration and mutual commitment. Successfully delivering this scope within a dynamic and challenging operational environment demonstrates the agility, adaptability, and dedication of both organizations."
He further added:
"We are delighted to work on a project of this magnitude to upgrade a key offshore asset for one of our core regional clients. Our approach to complex repair projects rests on three core pillars: uncompromising quality, timely delivery, and strict adherence to safety standards—reinforcing our position as an integrated maritime hub supporting the region’s offshore sector."
